The educational philosophy at Highland is based upon the fact that children are naturally inquisitive and excited by learning. Our goal is to keep that inquisitiveness alive. Highland Free School wants to create an environment that stimulates students to explore, create and learn at their own pace. To enable children to individually explore the potential of a situation or learning experience, children will be given the chance to develop independence, self-confidence and self-discipline by making choices and taking responsibility for those choices. Our curriculum is aligned with the Arizona College and Career Ready Standards and includes integrated, thematic units that often use hands-on, innovative activities and projects designed to give students practice in applying the Arizona educational standards while strengthening their twenty-first century skills of creativity, collaboration, and communication.

Business Review

I don't know of any other school that would provide my 3 boys with critical thinking skills and allow them to develop their creative ideas while ensuring that they prepare them for upcoming challenges. I am beyond grateful for the time, dedication, and love that each teacher and director devotes to my kids at Highland Free School. The benchmark scores say it all for those that need more evidence.

I attended Highland in the early years, 74 - 79ish. Not only a school but a family as well. I am forever grateful for my time there. My son attended in the 90s, undoubtedly my grandkids would also but we live in Utah now. They set the bar for other schools to follow. Nick will always be my favorite teacher.
