Upcoming Family Shows at Live Theatre Workshop

By Sponsored Content from Live Theatre Workshop April 30, 2021

If you are looking for spring and summer outings for the whole family, look no further than Tucson's Live Theatre Workshop Children's Theatre! There are three more shows in this season's family series, starting with an outdoor, drive-in theatre experience for The Tortoise and the Hare in the cooler May evenings and mornings and transitioning to the new, indoor Children's Theatre space during the heat of the summer for Once Upon This Time (July) and The Conundrum at Camp Catalina (August-September).

The Tortoise and the Hare

This updated, silly version of this family-friendly classic takes place at Camp Wagamaroon, a sports camp run by a nocturnal and scatterbrained raccoon named Rhoda. She tries to teach Tuggle the Tortoise and Juanita the Jackrabbit to be the best runners they can be, but her disorganization leads to many hilarious hijinx that will have the audience rolling with laughter.

Summer 2021 Shows:

Once Upon This Time

The Live Theatre Workshop children's productions move indoors to the new children's theatre for just three weekends in July for the production of Once Upon This Time, a twist on a classic princess story...you know the ones that always begin with “Once Upon a Time”. Those classic tales of magic, dreams, fantasy, and true love. But do you think those stories still hold up in today’s modern world? Is there still true love and bibbity-bobbity-boos in this age of smartphones and Wi-Fi? Would all those princesses still live happily ever after? Two narrators battle it out in an attempt to answer these questions. It is “Princess meets Present” when the stories of Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, Beauty & the Beast, and Cinderella are given a modern twist and told Once Upon THIS Time, written by Richard Gremel with music by Michael Martinez.

The Conundrum at Camp Catalina

In August, the LTW Children's Theatre resumes its usual Sunday afternoon schedule with The Conundrum at Camp Catalina, written by Tyler West with music by David Ragland. At Camp Catalina, they are all about being kind to each other and the wilderness around us. Join them for the first-ever Woodland Games: a fun competition to see which campers apply all the knowledge they have learned during their adventure in the woods. The Woodland Games winners will receive a wonderful prize! There will be tent making, there will be knot tying, there will be arts and crafting, there will be s'more eating, and there will certainly be drama and mystery! Come along for this campout and help these wonderful characters solve the mysteries of Camp Catalina.
