What do you do when your creative, curious tween daughter is feeling a touch of the stay-at-home blues? You introduce her to magic, adventure, and lots of horses through the world of Star Stable and the Soul Riders!

It started with a book. My girl is a reader and a horse lover, so when the new book Soul Riders: Jorvik Calling arrived in our mailbox, I barely had time to open the package before she caught notice of the cover and asked if it was for her. Soon after, every time I peeked into her bedroom her nose was in the book and her imagination was somewhere on Jorvik Island with a team of all-girl heroes and their horses, discovering their destiny to save the world.

At least that what she tells me. I haven’t had a chance to read the book yet. My daughter passed it on to her older sister, whose curiosity was also piqued by the Soul Riders' adventures.

As much as my daughter was enjoying the book, I decided to wait for a bit to tell her the best part: there is much more! The world of Jorvik and the Soul Riders isn’t just in a book. The characters have been brought to life by Star Stable Music which includes original songs by the Soul Riders themselves. (You can see the Soul Riders Official Music Video HERE).

Better yet? The horses of Jorvik are also part of an immersive, interactive online game: Star Stable Online. In fact, this game is Star Stable’s flagship product and is played by millions of girls around the world. Readers of the Soul Riders book can truly become part of the world they’ve come to love.

I dropped the tidbit about the music and online game just as my daughter was finishing the book and lamenting that she would miss it. Once she learned there was a game that would allow her to have a horse of her own and go on her own adventures, she was all in!

My daughter has only been playing the game for a couple of days, and is still getting familiar with all of the details. Naming her horse and creating her character was an exciting process. (She settled on Echodreamer, or Echo for short. She’s thrilled with the name.) Now she is immersed in learning how to care for Echo and navigate the beautiful world of Jorvik. Moments ago she exclaimed, “I have a cat now!” and summoned me to see the cute feline that now rides in Echo’s saddlebag. When I asked her what she likes about the game, she said, “There’s always something to do. I can go on quests, or just explore the island. It’s never boring!”  It’s hard to have the stay-at-home blues when you’re going on quests with your beloved horse (and cat).

Star Stable products (including the game, book, and music) are recommended for ages 9-14. So far they have been a great fit for my 10-year-old, and I can see how the game will grow with her for years to come. My 13-year-old daughter has also just started reading Soul Riders: Jorvik Calling. I suspect she would enjoy Star Stable Online, too, if her sister will ever let her play!
