(Note: This article was written during my 8th week on the Jenny Craig program, which was the week of April 5, 2020).
I'm not going to mince words. This week was pretty rough. Working from home, remote learning for my kids, the stress, isolation, anxiety, too-much togetherness, ALL of it hit me particularly hard this week. I know we are all riding the same emotional roller coaster, but this week definitely felt like I was in the front car.
And my weight loss journey this week? Also an emotional roller coaster. I decided to weigh myself daily because-why not? I started out a pound down from my last weigh-in.* Great! Then I hit two pounds mid-week. Woo hoo! But the next day I was back up a half a pound, even though I'd been sticking to plan. Bummer. And today? Just a little under a pound down from my last weigh-in. Boo. (* Avg. weight loss 1-2 lbs/week for members following the program.)
So, I was feeling kind of blue, to say the least. And then I decided to put on a pair of jeans. It has been weeks since I have worn jeans, and it just seemed like something different to do. Besides, most of my yoga pants were in the wash (Isn't that life right now?). I reached for my comfiest pair of jeans that were nevertheless a tad snug two months ago, and wow! They weren't snug anymore. In fact, they were TOO loose!
That got me motivated to try on all of my jeans (I mean, there's time, right?). The skinny jeans I hadn't worn in 6 months? They fit! The jeans in a smaller size that I hadn't worn in a year? THEY FIT TOO! I was amazed. Even though stretchy pants are quarantine-chic, they don't let you celebrate weight loss like a great pair of jeans does. And even though I've had a roller coaster of a week, my overall weight IS down over 12 pounds* with Jenny Craig. I definitely would not have celebrated that fact this week if I hadn't put on jeans.
Once I had my skinny jeans on, I decided to put on a top that I have never even once worn to bed. I brushed my hair and even put on a little makeup. I told my family I was doing it to take some photos for this article, but as I fixed myself up, my mood also lifted. My day got a little better, and my outlook for the coming days also seemed a little brighter. I suddenly feel like I can face whatever roller coaster ride the next week brings. All because I put on a pair of jeans, and because of Jenny Craig!
*Avg. weight lost in a study was 11.6 lbs./4 wks. for those who completed the program. I received promotional consideration.
