I just used Jenny Craig’s DNA Weight Loss Kit. Turns out it 100% resonated with me, and I’m excited to be on a truly personalized weight loss plan with Jenny Craig.

Let me be honest: I was NERVOUS about what I would learn from an analysis of my DNA. Would my results suggest I needed to go on a low carb diet (therefore eliminating my beloved Jenny Craig S’mores bars and Chocolate Lava Cake)? Would I find out I’ve been doing the wrong exercises for my body? Most worrisome, would I learn that my genes doom me to these jeans that are a size I'm not happy with?

I would find out the answer to these questions after doing the very quick and simple cheek swab that Jenny Craig sent me. It was so easy, I couldn't make any excuses about doing it. I swabbed my cheeks and sent the swabs out via UPS in a prepaid, pre-addressed envelope. Less than a week later, I got an email telling me my results were ready and that I would talk over them with my Jenny Craig consultant. Cue the nerves.

And cue the impatience. I couldn’t wait 24 hours to talk to my consultant! I found a link to my results report on the Jenny Craig app. and was able to read a detailed report that described results for 15 genetic markers related to weight loss, from how my body processes carbohydrates and fats, to how my metabolism affects my tendency to be overweight, to my sleep quality, sweet cravings, and more. I quickly skimmed the report, finding myself nodding throughout.

No, I wouldn’t have to go on a low carb plan (phew). Since my body actually processes carbs, proteins, and fats pretty efficiently, the Jenny Craig Balanced Rapid Rewards plan is appropriate for me. Yes, my genetic markers indicate that I have a very high chance of carrying around extra weight (well…yeah), but no, I’m not actually doomed. These results simply explained why I have had a hard time losing weight and maintaining that weight loss. Now Jenny Craig can provide me with tips and a personalized plan that will help me optimize my weight loss results.

There were a number of other interesting findings that rang true. I tend to sleep efficiently (well, at least when the kids do), my body may respond better to cardio exercise than strength training for weight loss (great excuse to get out and hike more), and I don’t have a tendency to overeat, but I do have some difficulty with impulse control (so that’s why it’s hard to pass up the baked goods at my office).

I’m still processing the results and talking things over with my consultant, but I don't feel nervous any more. I feel encouraged. First and foremost, my results confirm that I’m on the right meal plan for me. I had success with an earlier version of the balanced plan, and I now am even more confident that I will be successful again.

As for the other markers? Well, as someone who has struggled with my weight most of my adult life, I am not surprised that my genes contribute to the too-tight jeans I'm currently wearing. But those markers are just part of a much more comprehensive picture painted by the results of my Jenny Craig DNA Weight Loss Kit. Now I have the knowledge, and Jenny Craig is providing me with the tools to maximize my weight loss. I can't wait!
