Live Theatre Workshop (LTW) is hosting its first annual playwright contest for local students between the ages 13 - 18. Young playwrights should submit original short plays of any genre no more than seven pages in length by January 31, 2020.
“We are always thinking about ways to grow our theatre education programs for kids and provide them with even more opportunities,” said Director of Children’s Programming Amanda Gremel. “In addition to helping young playwrights grow in their craft, this new program offers opportunities for young people to audition and act with others outside of their school drama programs and in front of new audiences.”
In early March, LTW will announce the three top plays that will be workshopped. These shows and young playwrights will be paired with three local adult playwrights who will help them workshop their scripts.
LTW will have open auditions for students in the spring for a chance to act in a show that will be showcased later in the summer. (More information on audition dates and showcase dates to come after the new year.)
Guidelines for Submission:
- Email submissions by January 31, 2020 to: Amanda.g@livetheatreworkshop.org
- Provide name, age, school, contact information, and a PDF version of the script attached to the email.
- Script cover page must include the title, descriptions of each character and three to five sentences describing the plot. (Cover page is not included in the page limit,)
- Most importantly, playwright's name cannot appear anywhere on the script and cover page. Judges will be scoring each play without knowledge of the writer.
- There should be no more than five roles in submitted plays.
- Plays should be no more than 7 pages in length.
