A little of this, a little of that, and a lot of SPLAT! This n' That Creative Studio is a new way for Tucson families to tap into their creativity and have a lot of fun in the process. This new venue, located on 22nd St. just east of Kolb Road, offers a variety of workshops, classes, and events including:
- Sewing and craft classes (for kids and adults)
- DIY workshops
- Storytimes and sensory art activities for little ones
- Birthday parties
- Tucson's only SPLAT PAD for splatter painting fun

What is a Splat Pad, you ask? It is a room set aside specifically for the messy, fun, creative art of splatter painting. Children and adults alike can create unique splatter designs on canvas or other decorative or functional items. My daughters and I were recently invited to visit This n' That Creative Studio to participate in their Back to School Splatter Bash. For this event the children selected from backpacks, pencil pouches, and notebook covers to decorate. After they chose their paint colors (including neon colors that glow in a black light), they suited up in ponchos, shoe covers, and goggles, and began to splat. Their creations were truly impressive, and they had a blast!

With the black light on and music piped into the room, the Splat Pad has an exciting atmosphere that would be perfect for a birthday party or other small-group event. Which is just what the three local moms who own This n' That are planning. They intend to host birthday parties, team-building events, and fund-raisers, in addition to special events, like PaintStory times for young children and Sensory Sundays where kids can get messy and explore applying washable paint using such applications as bubble wrap, straws, and water squirt blasters.
In addition to the Splat Pad, This n' That has a sewing nook for sewing classes, open studio hours for DIY projects (such as the upcoming String Art Spectacular), and a number of other creative, family-friendly ideas in the works that will become available after the official grand opening event on September 7.
