What to Look for When Choosing a Preschool for Your Child

La Petite Academy® features STEM Curriculum, Individualized Instruction, and more

"What should I look for in a preschool experience for my child?"

If you’re the parent of a young child, or children, chances are you’ve asked yourself this question. We all want to make sure we’re giving our children every advantage and opportunity we can. That means ensuring their education begins early—and gets off to the right start.

La Petite Academy® has been part of Tucson's early childhood education landscape for nearly 30 years, nurturing and educating children with innovative curriculum and caring staff. Macaroni Kid East Tucson recently visited one of Tucson’s six La Petite Academy Locations (1935 E. Fort Lowell) to visit with director Grace Garcia and curriculum specialist Amy Canan. We toured the bright, colorful location under the shade of large eucalyptus trees in midtown and learned more about La Petite Academy’s focus on STEM curriculum and individualized educational experiences for curious young minds.

At La Petite Academy you’ll find way more than just daycare. In their Preschool and Pre-K programs, your child will discover respect, collaboration, and a love of learning. And at this school, innovation starts early, with STEM learning: science, technology, engineering, and math. In a nurturing, interactive environment, little innovators will find themselves inspired.

"Children are natural sponges and they absorb all of the information they are given, so we try to incorporate that into the curriculum each week."

In Preschool and Pre-K, teachers use research-based curriculum and an exclusive digital lesson planning tool to customize learning experiences based on the needs of each child. This means no two lesson plans are the same—because no two children are the same. The teachers can adapt activities to challenge the children, or modify the curriculum to meet the needs of a child who may need more guidance with a certain skill.

The warm, caring, and dedicated staff at this school works hard to ensure children are prepared for elementary school and future academic success. The La Petite Academy team is also dedicated to the complete well-being of the children they work with, from providing healthy food choices and plenty of physical activity, to supporting emotional, language, social, and cognitive development and positive behaviors.

La Petite Academy programs start with infant care (6 weeks) and continue to the end of elementary school with before- and after-school clubs and summer camps (for up to age 12). Flexible schedules are available, including full- and part-time enrollment options, and parents have access to the brightwheel mobile app for parents, allowing you to get regular updates of your child’s day, including photos and videos.
