Visit Pima Air and Space Museum on August 26 for a Great Family Evening Out

By Kindle Rising, East Tucson Macaroni Kid; sponsored giveaway from Pima Air & Space Museum August 18, 2017
Every summer, Pima Air & Space Museum opens their doors one evening a month to allow visitors to have the unique experience of visiting the museum at night. During Night Wings all five museum hangars are open with hands-on STEM activity stations for kids of all ages. Night Wings is an awesome way for the whole family to experience Pima Air & Space Museum!
Pima Air & Space Museum hosted my family for the Night Wings event in June. We had been to the Museum before, but had really only spent time in the main hangar (which is pretty amazing in and of itself). A scavenger hunt with activity stations throughout all of the Museum's hangars guided us to explore parts of the Museum we had never seen before.
Walking from hangar to hangar just as the sun was setting behind the outdoor aircraft was absolutely striking, and it was my favorite part of the evening. My kids had a blast (yes, the pun is intended) completing all of the hands-on STEM activities that were part of the scavenger hunt, from exploring the power of air to propel small rockets and "helicopters," to programming a robot in the space gallery, to dressing up like pilots and exploring all of the fascinating aircraft. Children who visited all of the stations and completed the tasks were able to turn in their scavenger hunt card for a small prize at the end of the evening. This was a necessary incentive for my kids, otherwise they may not have wanted to leave. We closed out the event, and at 9:00 PM had to convince them they didn't really want to spend the night in the hanger. (They actually DID love the idea of staying overnight among the giant jets and planes...which led me to wonder if Pima Air and Space Museum ever does overnight events for families. Maybe we need to drop some hints!)

Truly, Night Wings was an event our entire family enjoyed. At just $10 per adult and FREE admission for children, it is a relatively inexpensive and incredibly interesting family evening out. We didn't partake of the Flight Grill during our visit, but if you're hungry, you can make a night of it and have dinner right there at the Museum as well.
