Febreze Air Purifier vs Smelly Cats: A Macaroni Review

By Kindle Rising August 6, 2015
I have been a cat person my whole life, and have rarely lived without at least one feline fur-baby in my household. Unfortunately, sometimes cats can be a bit...smelly. No matter how frequently the litter box is cleaned, or how rarely we feed them stinky wet food, the odors can linger. My worst nightmare is when someone enters my house and, without a kitty (or kitty accessories) in sight asks, "How many cats do you have?" Yes, it has happened, and it is MORTIFYING (and the answer is two, only TWO)!

When I was asked if I wanted to review a new air purifier and freshener, I immediately thought of my cats and agreed. Not only does the
Febreze™ HEPA Tabletop Air Purifier continuously cleans the air of dust, pollen and pet hair, it freshens the air with Febreze™ scent. Plus, its compact size seemed like it could fit just about anywhere. Worth a try!

When the box arrived in the mail, the cats were as intrigued as I was. It took me just a couple of minutes to insert the filter and scent pack; it was up and running before the cats had even fully explored the box! It was obviously easy to use. But would it work?

I placed the air purifier on a small table in a corner of the room nearest to where the litter boxes are kept. Immediately, I could smell the subtle Febreze™ scent (Linen & Sky), and after a couple of hours the whole area was much cleaner smelling. After a couple of days, I realized that the I didn't notice any lingering cat odor in the room at all and the air seemed somehow crisper, even a tad cooler, which is truly an accomplishment in the heat of the summer!

We have had the The Febreze HEPA Tabletop Air Purifier for a couple of weeks now, and I am not only aware of the fresher smell, but also the fact that the dual-action HEPA-Type filter seems to be living up to the claim that it that traps up to 99% of airborne dust, pet dander, pollen, and allergens. According to Febreze, the HEPA-Type filter should last approximately four months, and there is a check-filter light on the system to help you keep track of that time. Filter replacements run about $15 for two.

The purifier can be run without the scent pack, which will give you the benefits of the air purifier without additional scent. I personally think the scent is subtle and very pleasant, and haven't tried the unit without it yet. Scent pack refills run about $10 for two and come in Linen & Sky or Spring & Renewal fragrances.

Overall, the Febreze HEPA Tabletop Air Purifier seems to be doing exactly what I wanted it to do: Freshening and purifying the air in and around the cats' most frequented spot in our home. In fact, a recent visitor sat in that room for quite some time before one of our cats made an appearance. The visitor said, surprised, "Oh, you have a cat?" Mission accomplished.

The Febreze HEPA Tabletop Air Purifier retails for $64.99 and can be purchased at Walmart, select CVS locations, or online at Amazon.com.
