Macaroni Review: FREE Creatacard™ App from American Greetings

Make and Send Personalized Cards...Right from Your iPad!

Let’s talk about stamps.  Yes, those small, sticky rectangular objects that we are supposed to put on envelopes prior to mailing.  Here’s the thing.  I NEVER seem have them on hand when I need them.  I have been known to shell out good money for a store-bought card, only to have it sit on my desk for weeks, unmailed.  Why?  No stamps.  Or this scenario: My child creates a beautiful piece of artwork for Nana and Papa for Grandparent’s Day in September (September 7th this year).  Nana and Papa love the artwork when they finally get it…at Christmas.  Why so late?  No stamps!

Luckily, American Greetings has created the perfect app for kids with stamp-impaired parents like me. Creatacard™ Card Maker is the first and only app to take your children’s creativity from the iPad directly to a professionally printed…and MAILED…greeting card.  Not only that, the app has easy-to-use tools, like crayons, paint, stickers, stamps and lettering, that really allow your child’s imagination free reign as they create masterpieces for their loved ones.  There is also a section for your child (or you) to customize standard card designs for nearly any occasion.  Best of all (for my children at least) Creatacard™ is FUN.

Moments after I completed the fast, FREE download on my iPad, my daughters were vying for a chance to try out the Creatacard™ app.  My 4-year-old got first dibs and dove right in, easily navigating the creative tools.  There are friendly voice prompts, and easy-to-follow icons, so even a pre-reader can figure out how to create a masterpiece.  My 7-year-old's favorite part was inserting her own photographs into the card.  She filled one entire card with selfies, but ultimately decided to include just one photo of herself (appropriately, alongside a drawing of a monkey) into the card she made for her grandpa.

Once the cards are started, children can easily save them to be edited later.  When they decide they are finished with the card, they are prompted to “grab a grown-up” to help them mail the cards.  The mailing process was easy, just a few steps to enter the address and payment information, all of which is secured by a password so that children can’t mail cards without permission. The cost to print and mail a card is $3.49, which is cheaper than buying and mailing many store-bought cards, and in my opinion, worth the convenience (no stamps!)  After cards are set to be mailed, children can track their card's progress through the mail with the “Where’s my Card” tab.

My daughters each created a card for their grandparents who live across town, and we sent them out as a pre-Grandparent’s Day surprise, so I was able to see the final products for myself.  I was very impressed with the quality.  The cardstock was durable, and the colors on the printed cards were vibrant and true.  Grandma and Grandpa were thrilled with their cards, and my daughters were so excited to see their creations come to life.  And best of all? I didn’t have to think about stamps even once during the process!
