The Arizona Behavior & Autism Center LLC is a private, faith-based educational and behavioral facility located on the east side of Tucson (Houghton & Irvington Rds). We serve the educational and behavioral needs of children 2.5-11 years old. Our students are primarily children with autism spectrum disorder, but we also enroll peer role models, ages 3-5, in our ABA Center. All students enrolled in the Center receive a wonderful education. We maintain a 1 staff to 2/3 student ratio( based on individual needs) for our academic sessions. Each student has his or her own instructional plan that covers all academic, communication, social and behavioral needs. We follow the Arizona State Standards or the functional standards whichever is necessary for the child. Our Center hours are from 9 AM-3 PM daily, but before and after care are available.
Our facility is unique in that we are located on a 15 acre horse facility, in a quant house, therefore providing an environment that is nurturing to young children. This creative environment is conducive for learning skills that are more easily generalized into their own home environment, therefore addressing one of the most difficult tasks for a child with ASDs, generalization of new skills.
What about the horses?
What about the horses?
We have 10 therapy horses that are part of our program with the children attending the ABA Center. Some of our students ride before or after the daily therapeutic session at the Center. All of our students participate in the daily care of our animals such as brushing, filling water buckets and feeding hay.
Our Equine Therapy Arizona, Inc./Horses with Wings Therapeutic Riding Program is open to all children with special needs, even if they are not part of the ABA Center program. We serve children with cerebral palsy, spina bifida, neuromuscular disorders, post-traumatic brain injury, autism, ADHD, PTSD, depression, and cognitive disorders. Our goal is to pair the horse with the rider so that a positive and measurable relationship develops between the horse and child. Our animals are handpicked and trained to work with the children and accept our training activities and a child’s unpredictable behavior. Our staff works with creative ways to increase communication skills, social skills, motor development and balance. Each participant has specific goals and objectives developed for them that are designed to decrease their area of need and increase their strengths.
