Who's Behind the Macaroni?

A "Getting to Know You" Game...and Giveaway...from the Publisher's Desk

January 10, 2013
When I started this Macaroni Kid gig two years ago,  I pretty much knew everyone who was reading the newsletter.  And most people reading the newsletter knew each other.  It was a happy Macaroni Family of a whopping 100 or so people.

Well, that family has grown, and with over 2000 of you now getting these e-mails each week, we definitely don't all know each other!  Yes, it's sometimes easier to connect on facebook (and I encourage those of you who are holding out on liking the page to do so!).  However, this website/newsletter is the heart of the East Tucson Macaroni Kid Community, so I thought it would be fun to use this page to play a little game.  Let's get to know one another and make our community feel a little smaller...even as it continues to grow!

Here's how it works:  I'll start by sharing 5 things about myself.  The first person to comment will find one thing they have in common with me, and include that thing in a list of 5 things about themselves, the second commenter will find a commonality with the first commenter, and so on!  We'll learn just a little bit about one another, find our connections...oh...AND you'll be entered to win a $20 Target gift card (because that's how I roll).

Sooo...I'll start!  Five things you may or may not know about your East Tucson Macaroni Kid Publisher:

1.  Yes, those two darling little girls in the photo above (by the fabulous Michelle Rooney Photography, BTW) are my daughters.  I'm thrilled to be the mama of two precocious princesses!

2.  I'm married to my high school sweetheart (but we didn't actually get married until nearly 10 years after we graduated high school).

3.  I studied abroad in Zimbabwe my junior year of college, and I backpacked through Europe-solo-for 6 weeks before grad school.  I LOVE to travel, but the most exotic destination we get to these days is San Diego!

4.  I'm a speech-language pathologist (aka "speech therapist").  Because I publish Macaroni Kid, many people assume I work with children.  In fact, I primarily work with adults who've had strokes or brain injuries.  I love the work I do.

5.  Dark chocolate. Diet Coke. Coffee.  Do you recognize a bit of a caffeine addiction?   Hey, I have to stay awake to put together this website somehow!

Ok everyone, 'fess up!  It's your turn!  Again, the first commenter will find something in common with me, plus 4 new things, the second will find a commonality with the first commenter, and so on.  Have fun with it!  Can't wait to learn more about you. And don't forget...all commenters are entered to win the $20 Target Gift Card, so don't be shy!

Have a wonderful week, and thanks for being a part of this wonderful East Tucson Macaroni Kid community!
