This fun summer craft was first suggested to us by Michelle Melnik, a fellow Macaroni Kid publisher. Northwest Tucson Macaroni Kid and I thought it would be a great summer craft project, so we shared it with children at the Bookman's Summer Children's events this week. If you missed those events, here are the instructions so that you can make your own flip flops at home!
Materials:
- Colored foam or paper (cardstock).
- Glue
- Scissors
- Pencil for tracing feet
- Embellishments (shaped cut outs, crayons, markers, glitter, pom poms, etc.)
Directions:
- Have children place their feet onto a piece of paper.
- Trace around their feet and cut out.
- Cut two long rectangle shapes from more paper and have children glue onto their flip flops to make a strap.
- Let children decorate flip flops however they choose. Have embellishments (stickers, different shaped cut outs, glitter, etc) available for them to choose from or let them draw and color using crayons or markers.
- Flip flops can be hung on the wall for decorations, or you can have children wear them (inside) for playtime.
